Stay at Kääriku hotel as if in the midst of the Olympic Games

15.02.2024
In collaboration between the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum and Kääriku Sports Center, Olympic-themed hotel rooms have been created, providing an overview of all past Olympic Games. This unique project allows hotel guests to experience something extraordinary, highlighting the excitement and inspiring moments of the Olympic Games.

The unique project emerged from the mutual interest of both institutions to make a part of Olympic history more accessible to people and to add value to hotel rooms through Olympic-themed elements. "Kääriku has been a place over the decades where people have pursued Olympic medals, and many of its training facilities have the sheen of medals," said Rait Männik, curator of the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum and one of the participants in the project. "Therefore, the Olympic theme seemed like a fitting choice," Männik added.

Each room provides the guest with a captivating overview of a particular Olympic Games and highlights the most interesting moments that occurred there. The rooms are designed with Olympic symbolism, featuring unique photos from the archives of the International Olympic Committee. These elements not only present intriguing facts but also vividly bring to life the key events of the Olympic Games.

"In a sports center focused on achievement sports, the essence of achievement must be felt even while sleeping, and in a center dedicated to intelligent sports, wisdom must be visible even during moments of rest. For participants in sports quizzes, staying in Kääriku will be a significant advantage," said Kristjan Karis, a member of the Tehvandi Sports Center's management board. "We thank the team from the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum for joining in with the idea, to collectively congratulate the Estonian Olympic Committee on its 100th anniversary," Karis added.

Siim Randoja, the director of the Sports Museum, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Olympic movement and idea have now reached the hotel rooms in Kääriku through a small exhibition. "It is especially delightful that, for the first time, it is possible to stay in Olympic-themed rooms in this current Olympic year in Paris," described Randoja.

Kääriku Sports Center is Estonia's largest sports training base and a state-of-the-art Olympic preparation center with the provision of all support services. Even the Estonian women's epee team, which concluded the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 with triumph, had their training camp in Kääriku.

The Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum has collaborated with Kääriku before – for instance, in 2023, a comprehensive exhibition was created in celebration of Kääriku's 75th anniversary, providing an overview of the sports base's past activities and developments. Visitors to the sports museum can also explore a wealth of material related to past Olympic Games and items associated with both former and current Olympic athletes.
